Building Confidence and Resisting Peer Pressure

IMPACT STORIES KIRK MIDDLE SCHOOLAuthor: Amaris Prescott

During our Friendly PEERsuasion session at Kirk Middle School, the girls engaged in meaningful conversations and activities centered on self-confidence and peer influence. One standout moment was when they created Confidence Cards, personalized with affirmations like “I am strong, smart, and capable.” The room was excited as they decorated their cards with vibrant colors and stickers, turning them into daily reminders of their strength.

The role-play scenarios were another powerful experience. The girls acted out real-life peer pressure situations—such as being encouraged to skip class or gossip about a peer—and practiced standing firm in their decisions. After one scenario, Kacci shared, “I never thought about how I could say no without feeling bad. This really helped me see I have choices.”

The session ended with a Sister Circle, where the girls reflected on moments when they felt pressured and how they could apply what they learned. Alivia opened up about struggling to say no to friends but said she now felt more confident using her affirmations and personal strengths to make the best decisions for herself.

This session highlighted the power of self-awareness and peer support, reinforcing the importance of standing strong against negative influences. Seeing these young girls leave with a newfound confidence in their voice and choices was a true impact moment!
