Smart Start Academy Recap
Smart Start Academy Concludes a Summer of Discovery and Growth

Girls Inc. of Delaware recently wrapped up another successful summer camp, celebrating four weeks of learning, leadership, and unforgettable experiences. Throughout July, girls explored weekly themes that sparked curiosity, strengthened critical thinking, encouraged creativity, and built confidence through hands-on learning and real-world experiences.
Week 1: Science Week

The summer kicked off with Science Week, where participants became young scientists through experiments, investigations, and hands-on STEM activities. Girls explored scientific concepts by asking questions, testing ideas, and discovering how science connects to the world around them. The week concluded with a visit to the Air Mobility Command Museum, where participants explored historic aircraft and learned about aviation, engineering, and military history through an interactive museum experience.
Week 2: Math Week

During Math Week, girls developed problem-solving and teamwork skills through engaging math game challenges and real-world applications with NBA Math Hoops. Activities encouraged strategic thinking while making math both fun and meaningful. The week’s learning came to life during a field trip to The Franklin Institute, where interactive STEM exhibits inspired participants to explore science, mathematics, technology, and innovation beyond the classroom.
Week 3: Art Week

Art Week celebrated creativity, culture, and self-expression. Girls explored diverse artistic traditions through hands-on projects, cultural art activities, and dance instruction with Wilmington Dance Academy that encouraged collaboration and confidence. The week concluded with a visit to the Biggs Museum of American Art, where participants experienced artwork up close, learned about American artists, and connected classroom creativity with real-world artistic expression.
Week 4: Tech Week

The final week focused on Technology Week, introducing girls to coding, robotics, and technology through FinchBlox and strengthening critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. To close out the summer, participants visited Mt. Cuba Center, where they explored the intersection of nature, science, and technology while reflecting on everything they had learned throughout the program.
Smart Start Academy offered more than summer learning; it gave girls the chance to discover new passions, build lasting friendships, strengthen leadership skills, and create memories that will stay with them long after the program ended. We are incredibly grateful to our dedicated staff, families, volunteers, and community partners who helped make this summer a success. Together, we continue to inspire girls to be…
Strong. Smart. Bold. Always.
